In the United States, the Philadelphia Department of Public Health issued a health alert in August 2024 after etomidate was detected in the local unregulated drug supply and linked to overdose deaths — a documented North American case. Who Uses Kpods, and How They’re Accessed

This age pattern is consistent with broader observations from Singapore and Hong Kong public health reporting, which has generally described Kpods as concentrated among younger populations relative to many other substances covered elsewhere in this series. On motivation, the same case series described users as often drawn to a brief euphoric effect described as offering temporary relief from stress or difficult circumstances.
There is currently no research — Canadian, American, or international — on Kpod use in North America. Furthermore, it is not known if these products are popular specifically within LGBTQ communities.
